A cistern is a man made reservoir for storing water that will be used for various purposes. This cistern collects and stores water from underground springs and surface run off. The cistern water was used for laundry, cooking and bathing at the house and for watering animals in the barnyard. This cistern is built in the shape of a cylinder.
Cisterns are commonly used in areas where water is scarce. In Colorado we have wet and dry spells. Consequently, the cistern is a valuable item because it enables the owner to store water when it is plentiful and safely keep the water for use when natural water is scarce.
What is A Stone Mason?
A stone mason is a person who practices stonemasonry, which is the craft of shaping rough pieces of rock into accurate geometrical shapes, mostly simple, but some of considerable complexity, and then arranging the resulting stones, often together with mortar, to form structures. Each stone must be carefully fit to make sure the final shape of the cistern meets the design requirements.
